A Message From Our Fire Chief

Hi, my name is Shane Painter, and I serve as the Fire Chief of the East Bend Volunteer Fire Department. I would like to introduce myself, but more importantly the men and women who serve the community.

I am a native of East Bend, North Carolina, I joined the East Bend Volunteer Fire Department in June of 1996 after graduating high school. During my time with the department, I have served in all the ranks within the department, from Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, Safety Officer, before taking the position of Fire Chief.

During my time with the department, I have served on the Board of Directors, and as the grant person. As the grant person I researched funding for the department and submitted grants. Over the years the department has been awarded several grants, from FEMA, NCOSFM, NC Forest Service, and Firehouse Subs. These grants have given the department the ability to purchase equipment that the department would not have been possible to purchase just with just using our budget money.

During my time with the department, the department has gone through many NC DOI & ISO ratings with the most recent one being in 2023, where the department maintained a Class 3/9 NC DOI rating, which was first obtained in 2018.

As Fire Chief, I am privileged to serve with a great group of personnel that have a huge dedication to serve the community, and are always working hard to provide great service to the community that we serve.
