The East Bend Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1956 with the purchase of the first truck in 1957 which was housed in the gas station across the street from where the fire station is currently located. East Bend Volunteer Fire Department is located in the piedmont region of North Carolina. The East Bend Community is a small rural area of approximately 4,940 in population and covers around 90 square miles.
The East Bend Volunteer Fire Department contracts with Yadkin County to provide fire protection to the district of East Bend. The department receives funding based off that contract from money that is collected through the fire tax for the East Bend Fire District.
The East Bend Volunteer Fire Department is made up of 43 total members with 6 of those members being part-time employees which work from 8am to 5pm.
The East Bend Volunteer Fire Department operates with 9 apparatus. These apparatuses are Engines, Tankers, Ladder Truck, Service Truck, Hose Truck, Brush Truck, and a Pickup that carries equipment for Rehab as well as water rescue equipment.
The command structure of the department is a Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, 2 Captains, 2 Lieutenants, and a Safety Officer.
The East Bend Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection, for the East Bend Fire District, also provides medical services with the 22 personnel that NC State Certified in Emergency Medical Responder, or Emergency Medical Technician.
The East Bend Volunteer Fire Department in 2018 received an ISO Class 3 insurance rating from the North Carolina Department of Insurance. The department received this rating by performing a 1-mile hose lay which means that the department can provide water from any water source whether it be from a hydrant, pond, or creek 1-mile out from that water source. The department uses Hydrants, ponds, or creeks that are throughout our district.
In 2022 the department received the certification of light rescue from the North Carolina Rescue Commission. This certification allows the department to operate on rescue responses like vehicle accidents. This certification requires a lot of training hours and equipment.
Over the past several years the department has been awarded several grants for new equipment from FEMA, NC State Fire, NC State Rescue grants, as well as Fire House Subs.
The East Bend Volunteer Fire Department has its own training faciality, where we can conduct live fire training, vehicle extraction, apparatus pump training, as well as many more different types of training.
